GOALS OF THE LEAGUE
LEARN/HAVE FUN/COMPETE: The STARS Summer Hoops League will provide area middle school boys (*Rising 6th – 8th Grade) the opportunity to play weekly games in a structured, competitive environment (no weekly practices – games only). Players need more game reps under great coaches in preparation for the upcoming 2024 middle school basketball tryouts/season. Also, playing with different players and hearing a different voice is GREAT for young players! This summer league will allow athletes to learn and work on their skills in a structured scrimmage setting. Games will be officiated by TSSAA officials.
For those athletes who may attend STARS Summer Team Tryouts and play on a STARS Rising 6th Grade Summer Team in the FRA Performance League, there will be NO conflicts with the weekly practice or weekly game. Therefore, athletes can do both!
Rising 7th / 8th Grade Boys: We will NOT be hosting tryouts or forming teams – for external league play. The Wednesday evening STARS Summer Hoops League is your place for weekly competitive games!
DATES / DIVISIONS
- League will be hosted at TOA Sports Performance Center (215 Gothic Court, Franklin, 37067)
- Individual registration ONLY; no “team” registration
- Tentative Game Times: (WEDNESDAYS) 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. (games will start NO earlier than 5:00 p.m.) but may adjust schedule as needed based on league size (no weekly practices – games only)
- Grades: Rising 6th – 8th Boys (Based on 2024 – 2025 school year)
- Divisions (Boys Only):
- PREMIER: Rising 7th / 8th Grades who are ADVANCED / TOP Middle School Players
- Varsity: Rising 7th / 8th Grades who made a Middle School Team Roster and / or high level recreational team player
- JV: Rising 6th / 7th Grades (ALL Rising 6th Graders and those Rising 7th Graders who almost made their Middle School Team Roster and / or average recreational team player)
- As we are using week 1 and possibly week 2 to evaluate athletes, we will notify parents / request division change if our coaching staff deems it best for the athlete / league to move him up / down a division
- Season consists of 8 weeks
- In order to form the most fair, competitive teams possible, we will use week 1, and possibly week 2, for evaluations through skill work, 3 on 3, and team play
- Weeks 2 – 8 or weeks 3 – 8 will feature game / league play
- REGISTER EARLY – Last year in our inaugural season we were 16 players shy of a sellout. LEAGUE WILL SELL OUT THIS YEAR – REGISTER EARLY!!
TEAMS & GAME FORMAT / GAME TIMES & RULES
- 8+ players per team (*We do expect players to miss a game(s) due to summer travel / vacations, etc.)
- Individual registration ONLY
- Wednesday evenings in June / July – June 12 through July 31 (8 weeks)
- Teams Formed / Coaches Assigned – Teams (players and assigned coaches) are fixed for the entire season
- 48-Minute Games!
- Two, 24-min. halves with running clock
- Clock stops last minute of each half
- Games will be officiated by TSSAA officials
- Players will receive a jersey(s) for the league; jerseys to be returned after last game
